The facts
As a nation throw away over 400 million domestic batteries a year
Domestic batteries contain a cocktail of heavy metals.
These metals can leach out into the soil and water supply causing damage to
people and to the environment, EU Legislation for October 2006 has set a recycling target of 25% for
domestic batteries by 2012
What can you
do?
Use the mains wherever possible, when you have the choice.
Use rechargeable batteries and a battery charger. The energy needed to make
batteries is 50 times greater than the energy they give out.
Take batteries
to a recycling centre.
Council now provide recycling points for domestic batteries at all public
libraries (except Llangernw and Cerrigydrudion).
They also provide battery recycling facilities for both domestic and car
batteries in our Household Waste Recycling Centres.
Garden Waste Collections
The Green Waste Kerbside Recycling Van
Crest Co-operative provides a free fortnightly garden waste collection service
in partnership with Conwy County Borough Council's kerbside collection scheme.
Thank you to all those who have participated and recycled their garden waste
using Crest's kerbside collection scheme.
Please make sure your bag is out by 7.00am on the allocated day and placed at
your properties boundary.
A maximum of 6 bags is allowed per household for each collection.
We take light garden waste including;
Bedding plants, grass cuttings, tree & shrub prunings, hedge trimmings & leaves
In efforts to reduce plastic bag waste it makes environmental good sense to use
re-usable bags. Crest box bags are designed specifically for green waste and
represent excellent value compared to disposable bags.
All the garden waste collected is taken to the composting facility where it is
processed and matured into compost, turning what was once waste into a resource.

Start Home Composting
It is the best way
to manage your organic waste from home, Almost a third of household rubbish is organic and suitable for composting. By
taking it out of the bin you're helping to protect the environment and reduce
the need for landfills and incinerators
Why Compost?
Composted kitchen and garden waste is a great alternative to expensive
artificial fertilisers and peat.
In Britain alone up to 94% of peat bogs have been damaged, destroying the
habitat of many endangered or rare plants and animals.
Garden bonfires pollute and create a nuisance - composting stops the need for
burning.
Composting is the easiest way to recycle your waste. You can do it at home and
involve all of the family!
Home composting benefits your garden, your environment and it's easy and fun!
How does it work?
Collect all your suitable kitchen and garden waste e.g. Vegetable Peelings, Tea
Bags, Grass Cuttings, Leaves, Shredded Paper, Fruit Skin etc
Place in your compost bin
Place an old piece of carpet on the top to keep the warmth in.
All sorts of mini beasts from minute organisms to worms break down the waste,
resulting in a free supply of compost!
