A Word from Betty
On behalf of Light Up Pen may i extend a warm welcome to each and everyone to our sixth "Switch-On".
Since we started back in March 1999, we have installed thousands of bulb throughout Penmaenan, Pant yr Afon and Dwygyfylchi.
All our lighting is mains powered by individuals who very kindly help us, otherwise none of it would be possible.
The Light Up Pen Cafe came about as an idea to open a cafe for just one week, back in 1999. It was so well received by the locals that many asked if we could have a permanent cafe. After talks with Alan Pinkerton, owner of the building, light up pen took over the premises and the Cafe funds all the lighting you see every year. On top of raising money for the lighting, we actively support many other charities by holding bingo sessions, coffee mornings, etc. and have raised thousands of pounds for worthwhile causes.
We are fortunate to have the support of many people, either baking cakes, etc. or by giving there time to helping our light crew install the features and lights in often atrocious weather, and it is to all these people we would like to say a big thank you.
A word from Ken and Darrell
Nearly 4,000 Bulbs on, Light Up Pen has year after year tried to cover as many buildings as possible in lighting.
We now face the problem of re-lamping taking a huge proportion of our time, before we can even begin to think of new lighting runs and features
We are fortunate that many individuals offer there help to the crew, be it just directing the traffic, footing ladders or maybe fitting lenses and lamps to the lighting runs before they are put up on the buildings.
In the six years, countless people have been out in atrocious weather just to make it happen
Darrell and Ken would like to thank everybody who has helped Light Up Pen
